HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH
Carlisle
Baptist
Church began in 1960 when Chaplain Wallace Hale, then an US Army War College student, met with two families (Glenn and Modena Love and Ben and Norma Headrick) to begin Southern Baptist work in the Carlisle Area. Area missionary, Ralph Neighbour, Jr., assisted in the beginning of the work, with

Church as the sponsor.
Worship services began on Sunday, May 22, 1960 in the YWCA facilities on West High Street. Because of growth, the
Mission moved to the
Carlisle
Municipal
Building in 1961. The mission grew and matured so rapidly that it was able to constitute as the
Carlisle
Baptist
Church , October 1, 1961
In 1962, under the leadership of Rev. Warren Burnham, land was purchased at the corner of Walnut Bottom Road and Wilson Street.
In April, 1965 the present building was completed and the congregation was able to move into its new facilities and In February, 1999 we completed an addition to our facility to enable us to have complete handy-cap accessibility, additional class rooms, and up-to-date accommodations throughout our facility
Carlisle
Baptist
Church has been lead by nine pastors (see list below) including their current pastor, Rev. Charles D. Zitzman, born and raised in Franklin County Pennsylvania. Rev. Zitzman has been pastor since June, 1991.
Mission sites in
Chambersburg , Mechanicsburg, Yellow Breeches (Boiling Springs) and Silver Springs (Middlesex/Silver Springs Township) have been established by Carlisle Baptist
Carlisle has ministered to many
War
College families who are here from ten months to three years before transferring to another military location. Our church has the joy of sharing excellent talent and worship experience, if only for a brief time. Carlisle Baptist continues to maintain a solid core of local committed Christians who have been pillars over the years and have supported the ministry through good and bad times. Outreach to several nursing homes has enabled us to share time and talent with the Senior population of our area. In recent years, ministry to
Dickinson
College has enabled a new class to begin with as many as five students attending. Recently a student accepted the offer to students and joined the fellowship as a Watchcare member.
Carlisle
Baptist
Church is a "loving, dedicated group of Christians who love the Lord and are seeking to serve Him as He leads them. Our goal is to continue to serve Him in
Carlisle ,
Cumberland County, PA until He comes."
